History
How do you know who you are unless you know where you've come from? History isn't just about the past. It's about why we are who we are - and about what's next. Tony Robinson Actor and TV presenter.
History is the memory of things said and done. Carl L. Becker

Some of the pupils had the chance to dress up as characters from the Civil War Period.

Year 8

The English Civil War was brought to life when Steve Parish and Jo Ellis visited Year 8 at Greneway. They made the pupils realise how different life would have been in times of the English Civil War. When Steve fired his musket, the pupils appreciated how loud and smoky a battlefield would have been.

This way of learning was a great hit with the pupils.Adam declared, "I enjoyed the musket firing and the army routines. People were almost completely self sufficient and made their own gunpowder in the 1640's.

"When I dressed up as a lady from 1640's the clothes were very warm. I enjoyed this way of learning about History". Jade

"I liked handling the artifact which Jo & Steve brought in. Life in the Civil War was much harder than I realised". Sarah

Medieval Day by Sophie 7LF

The highlight of the day was when Steve showed us all of the animals

he killed and then he showed them up close. The most funny part was when

he showed the bear right up in Mel's face and that it was so horrible

that Mel hid behind me.

It was a good day and I am pleased that I don't live in medieval times.

It was a fun day to learn about their lives.

They also investigated castles, some made models as you can see from the photos. The cake based castles were the most popular!

"I really enjoyed being able to make a castle cake. I also produced a folder of work and found it very interesting doing research on castles". Maddie 7SP

"I really liked finding out about the most haunted castle in the world - Chillingham Castle". Emma 7LF

We were pleased with our castle cake - it looked too good to eat! We also made a recipe booklet and found out about medieval life". Mel & Sophie 7LF

"I enjoyed making a bow and arrow and a catapult- it was fun". Jack 7LF

"I really enjoyed working with Grace and Sian on my castle project - we all had different ideas & shared them". Chloe 7CN

"I loved making a model and a poster for my History homework". Chloe 7JH
